The north door of the cathedral at midnight, candles in every hand.

Christ is risen! The service began at midnight. In the cathedral it is so full that people stand outside in the cold, with candles, and it is like a field of small stars on the hill. We stood by the north door. Eldiyar fell asleep standing, held by Dastan's hand, and woke up at "Christ is risen" and shouted the answer louder than anyone. Everybody laughed, and the priest also.

At home at three in the morning: kümöch, eggs painted with onion skins, the sweet rice. A beautiful night.
