Easter at home

Kümöch and onion-skin eggs on the kitchen table, Easter morning.

Easter without the church. The archeparchy asked everyone to stay at home, and the midnight liturgy was on the radio (and on IradOne, for the town people with a TV). We lit the candle in the kitchen, Dastan read the Gospel, the children sat in their pyjamas and held eggs. Salima slept through everything, like all the saints.

Nobody said it was sad. We said Christ is risen to each other, and Eldiyar went to sing it out of the window to the lane. A neighbour answered from across the street.
