The .ir.ad names: what I found out

Long post, I promise it is useful. In two months I read everything I could and asked two friends at the exchange.

What happened. In 2013-14 Attelkom had a reseller scheme for .ir.ad domains. A reseller could register a name for the customer without the usual ISEZ paper check. This was meant for speed ("a toikana wants a site in one day"). But the same scheme was used by people from abroad. Thousands of .ir.ad names went to casinos, loans and pills sites, in English and in Russian and in some language I do not know. These names are cheap and anonymous.

What the search engines did. They saw: a zone full of rubbish. And they decided, as a robot decides, that all of .ir.ad is a place where the rubbish lives. Not one site was punished. The whole street was punished. My clients who sell tea and teach driving are on the same street.

What survives. Some of the pages are still in the results, but they show only to people in Andorra. I do not know why Andorra. Maybe Andorra is where the rubbish has the best customers.

What to do. A client in Irad is not hurt much: the customers come by the aunt, the sign and the phone. A client who needs foreign visitors (a hotel, a guesthouse) must have a generic domain, .com or .net. Costs about 12 dollars a year. I will help you move.
