The Kim family album

Why I am writing this

A retired agronomist, a daughter in Seoul who lent him a scanner, and a box of photographs nobody can name.

My daughter Vika said: Appa, before you forget, write it down. So I am writing it down. Kündölük is a good place, she says, because the Attelkom password protects it, and the family can read it from all over the world, if the world is open.

I have a shoe box. In the box there are 212 photographs. On the back of 39 of them there is a name, on the back of 11 a date. The others I know by faces, which will not last. When I die the box will go to my children, who will open it, look for ten minutes and close it. This blog is so that they will not close it.

I am 66. I have a wife, Nelli, who is much more patient than I am, two children, two grandchildren (a third is coming), a garden of tomatoes in the yard and a very bad left knee. I know rice. This is what I know, and I also know my family. They are the same subject, as you will see: the rice came with the family.

Every month I will write one story, as long as it needs to be. If you knew some of the people on the photographs, please write to me.
