The girl from the wolf video

My grandson showed me a dance. I understood nothing. Then I understood everything.

You may have seen it: five girls in wolf capes, a song called "Ak Börü", the dance with the arm over the head that everyone in school is doing. My grandson Artyom, 15, showed me on his phone in the kitchen and then showed me again with the sound off. Then he said "Dedushka, one of them is ours." And he pointed at the girl in the middle, the main dancer, Dana Pak.

I did not know what to say. In my life I have seen the Koryo-saram as rice growers, agronomists, teachers, tailors, and shopkeepers. Now a girl with our face is dancing on IradOne in a wolf cape and the whole country knows the dance. In the Soviet time they put us on trains. Now we are on the television, and the young people in Seoul are watching, and my daughter writes: "Appa, they are making a Korean version!"

My wife said "this is not Korean music, this is Irad's music with Korean dancing". She is right. In the last 80 years we have become Iradi in a way we did not plan, and we are Korean in a way we did not plan either. Maybe this is the future: dark wolf capes and kimchi.

I tried the dance. Nelli filmed me. The video is not for the blog.
