snow (and a phone number)

It snowed all weekend. On Sunday Nurlan came to our building with a bag of walnuts and a thermos, stood under the window and shouted "Meerim!" until Bars ran to the glass. Mama looked out and said "this one is polite". I said "mama!". She said "I'm just saying".

We walked around the block 6 times. At the end he asked for my number. I gave him the number. I gave him also the old one, in case. He said "why two?" I said "in case you're lost".

Why Kara Suu is the best tüntolk album (essay)

My essay for our English class, the theme was "a work of art that is underrated". Grade: 5!! So I put it here.

Everyone says Jolchu is the great one, and it is. But Kara Suu is braver. In 2004 everybody wanted tüntolk to make Jolchu again, and they made a dark album about the oily canals of Nurzhan, about the factories and the smoke and the people who live there. The critics did not like it. The fans did not like it. But listen with the light off: it is a city breathing. One day people will understand. I am waiting for them.

(The teacher wrote: "Strong opinion. Commas!!")

someone who likes Kök Bel

At Asel's cousin's birthday, there was a boy who plays the komuz (badly, he says, I agree) and knows all the words of "Talas Sunrise". All of them. Even the bit nobody knows. His name is Nurlan, he studies geography at TSU (third year), he is shy, and he is not tall.

the river, where we walked after the party. He carried my shoes. I don't know why, I didn't ask.

I did not tell him about tüntolk. I'll wait.

I waited at the Talasfilm gate

I went to the Talasfilm gate (the main one) and waited from 4 to 6 in the evening. I had a notebook for an autograph. Many people came out. None of them were tall. Then, at 6:05, a very tall man in a grey coat walked by, with his head down. I saw only his back. I did not shout. I think it was him.

Jyldyz says it was a lighting engineer called Ravil. I said it was a destiny. She said it was Ravil.

Mor-Wave night

Mor-Wave night at Club Doran!! Two DJs from Almaty played old tüntolk, the Jolchu tracks, and the whole club sang "Kes, kes!" Mama thinks I was at Aika's doing homework. (Mama does not read my blog. I hope.)

I have no voice now. Worth it.
