Tea and samsa on the platform at Aulie-Ata Junction.Tea and samsa on the platform at Aulie-Ata Junction.

At Aulie-Ata Junction the Talas branch meets the Chu line, and No. 1 and No. 2 change direction there. They stop for 22 minutes while the locomotive uncouples, runs round the train on a second track and couples to the other end. In the time-table it is called "run-round". The passengers call it "tea break": the platform sellers come to the windows with hot tea, samsa and dried apricots.

I think 22 minutes is the most honest stop on the line: a minute for the work, twenty-one for the tea. See Train No. 1 and No. 2.
