Walnuts: sell in October or in January?
A kilo of walnuts is cheapest the week they fall and dearest after the New Year. The cleverest sellers sell in neither.

In October every family with a tree needs cash for winter, and every buyer knows it. The price at the roadside falls to about 16 som a kilo. By January the same walnuts are 22 or 23, and by Nauryz even more.
If you can wait, wait. If you cannot, do a half-and-half: sell a third in October (for the winter coal, boots, debts) and hold the rest. The thing I learned from the walnut women of Kara-Buura: they never sell to the first buyer, never in the morning, never on a Monday. Nobody told them an economics theory. They just know that the morning buyer has the whole day to wait and they do not.
