The bell and the names
Every year on 14 November the great bell tolls for the clergy and the people taken in 1937.

In the courtyard the whole parish stood in the cold, and the names were read one by one, priest after priest, in Iradi and in Syriac. A girl from our parish, perhaps five, asked her mother in a loud whisper whether those people were sleeping. I told her yes, and that God knows their names even where the earth has forgotten.
I do not know if I should have said it. The mother thanked me. The bell was still going when we went in for tea.

Denha, it was my Aruuke, she told her father your answer at dinner. She also asked if the bell knows the names. I said yes.
