The corner shop and the phone
A QR code from the bank is now taped to every shop counter in Talas. What it changes for the woman behind the counter.

I asked the owner of the shop under my building how her business changed since customers started paying by scanning the bank's QR code with their phones. Three things.
First, less change. She used to keep a box of small notes from the bank every Monday. Now half the payments are exact. Second, fewer "I'll pay you tomorrow" debts, which she misses a little: the debts kept customers coming back. Third, she now knows exactly how much she sells per day, because the phone tells her. She did not want to know. Now she can't stop looking.

Same in our building. The shop owner asked me to set up his phone and then asked me to un-set it because he was afraid of the numbers.
