Nan tako for a granddaughter who wants Mexican
11 October 2015 · Main dishes
My granddaughter came home from school and said: "Nani, can we have tacos?" I asked what that is. She said it is what the big children eat. She meant the beef tacos from the TSU students' canteen, where her cousin eats three days a week.
I thought: it is a flatbread with meat. I can do that. I made non in the tandyr (the big flat one), cut it open like a pocket, put grilled beef, sliced onions, tomato, beet suzma with chilli and some green dill. She ate two and said "Nani, it is not tacos." I said "No. It is nan tako. In Semiz they have the same."
Now she asks every Friday. It is the best thing that happened to the food of my family this year, and I did not invent it.

She told her friends at school that her grandmother "invented tacos". Please do not correct her.
